The hotel is centrally sited in Plymouth. The Barbican from where the Pilgrim Farthers set sail in 1620, the Hoe and the modern shopping centre are all only a few minutes walk away.

It is a Victorian building dated around the 19th century, it was the the home of a ship captain. It's name the Astor comes from the Astor family, Lady Astor being the first woman member of Parliament in 1919.
